Meet Maddie
Meet our newest hero, Maddie! 16-year-old Maddie was diagnosed with Primary Mediastinal Large B-Cell Lymphoma, but has faced her diagnosis with enthusiasm, humor, and grit.
The minute we walked into Maddie's hospital room, we knew we had just met a special soul. It felt like a warm hug meeting Maddie and her mom. Maddie told us that after she found out she had a tumor in her chest, she decided it would be named Gerald and that she would make it her mission to kick Gerald's butt.
Aidan walked into the Lions vs Commanders game with Maddie's mantra on his water jug: Fight it out.
Although I'm sure Maddie word prefer to "thug it out" as is posted on her hospital room door (shown below). Please see the text in the bottom right corner. "Bye Gerald, there's the door. U R going DOWN."
Maddie's Story:
Maddie is a Flushing High School junior who dreams of a future in the medical field. She loves Harry Potter, building with Legos, and spending time with her friends.
On October 5, Maddie went to a local ER for a cough that wouldn’t go away and facial swelling. After a chest X-ray and CT scan, doctors discovered a large mass in her chest, and she was transported by ambulance to C.S. Mott Children’s Hospital.
Following a biopsy, Maddie was diagnosed with Primary Mediastinal Large B-Cell Lymphoma (Non-Hodgkin’s) on October 8. She spent 19 days in the hospital beginning her chemotherapy journey and is now home continuing treatment every 21 days. Round two begins on November 10, 2025.
Maddie’s goal? To finish chemotherapy by her 17th birthday on April 17. She is brave, determined, and stronger than cancer. A true fighter!
