Our Hero, Maverick
We're heading into week four of the NFL season with high hopes, copious courage, and lots of love—just like our newest hero, Maverick.
6-year-old Maverick was diagnosed with neuroblastoma, but that hasn't dimmed his shining spirit.
During a summer hospital visit, we got to spend time with Maverick. He was sweet, soft spoken, and loved sharing stories about his family. His face lit up when he was describing his siblings and dogs. It's safe to say we are well versed on his family tree!
Aidan walked into the Panther's stadium carrying Maverick's important message:
Strong. Brave. Never alone. #MaverickStrong
Maverick's Story:
When Maverick was just 5 years old, their world changed when they got the news that he had been diagnosed with stage 4 neuroblastoma.
Since that day, Maverick has faced more than any child should ever have to face. His journey has included surgeries, chemotherapy, countless hospital stays, blood and platelet transfusions, bone marrow transplants, immunotherapy, and undergoing radiation. There have been days filled with fear, pain, tears, and uncertainty. But there have also been smiles, laughter, silly moments, and so many reminders of just how incredibly strong their little boy has had to become.
According to Maverick's family, he is one of the strongest little boys they know.
Through everything, Maverick has remained Maverick. He is a fun-loving, silly, sweet little boy who loves monster trucks and Hot Wheels. He gets excited about football and baseball and has a huge love for dogs and cats. He loves the things that make him feel like a normal little boy: playing, laughing, having fun, and making memories.
Cancer has taken away pieces of his childhood that he should have gotten to experience, but it has never taken away his spirit.
Maverick isn't just a cancer patient. He isn't just a diagnosis. He is a little boy with a huge heart, an incredible spirit, and a strength that continues to amaze everyone who knows him. This is Maverick. This is his journey. And this is why we fight.
Strong enough to fight. Brave enough to keep going. Loved enough to never fight alone. #MaverickStrong
