Meet Sophia
Meet our newest hero, Sophia! Sweet 20-month-old Sophia was diagnosed with Infant Pre B Cell Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia (ALL) with KMT2A gene rearrangement, but despite all she's been through she remains the brightest ray of sunshine wrapped in a little tiny package.

When we first met Sophia, she was joyfully cruising around the hospital halls in her baby G-Wagon with the sweetest smile on her face—one of the cutest things we've ever seen!
Aidan walked into the Lions vs Eagles game with Sophia's mantra written proudly on his water jug: "Faith over fear."

Sophia's Story
At her routine one-year well visit on March 17th, 2025, Sophia’s unusually pale complexion prompted her pediatrician, Dr. Helen Economy, to order bloodwork. Just hours later, a phone call delivered news that would forever change our lives — the results were consistent with Leukemia. We immediately drove to the Emergency Department at C.S. Mott Children’s Hospital in Ann Arbor. A bone marrow biopsy confirmed the diagnosis, and the very next day a port was placed, and treatment began.

Sophia spent the first 40 days in the hospital for the initial induction round of chemotherapy treatment. It was only after the Hutchinson family delivered baskets on Easter Sunday that Sophia smiled for the first time in over a month. Sophia has endured admissions lasting weeks at a time for chemotherapy and white blood cell count recovery. She will have undergone multiple bone marrow biopsies, 15 spinal taps with interthecal chemotherapy under anesthesia, and countless port accesses. Sophia competed her 5th round of treatment on November 13th, 2025 consisting of a 24/7 infusion of Blinatumomab immunotherapy through a pump carried in her backpack for 29 consecutive days. On November 20th, 2025 she will begin her 6th (and final) round of inpatient chemotherapy through January 2026. Following this inpatient admission, Sophia will continue her maintenance phase of treatments outpatient in the Mott Hematology/Oncology clinic through April 2027.

Despite the challenges, Sophia’s spirit has remained unbroken. She is often seen performing the “Itsy Bitsy Spider” or “If You’re Happy and You Know It” at the weekly Talent Shows. Sophia spends hours passing the time cruising the halls of 7 East in her favorite ride-on cars with fellow inpatient friends and Dashiel the Therapy Dog giving fist bumps along the way. Sophia adores FaceTiming family and friends, watching birds, buses, and helicopters from the windows, Winnie the Pooh, mashed potatoes, and most of all her big brother John. Through every obstacle, she continues to embody faith, strength, perseverance, courage, and joy — our true warrior, our Little Victor.

The entire C.S. Mott care team has been nothing short of extraordinary throughout her journey. We are deeply and forever grateful for the compassion, patience, dedication, and expertise shown to Sophia every step of the way. Thank you for the exceptional care and kindness you continue to show our family.

Thank you to Aidan and the Hutchinson family for your dedication to making a difference in the lives of Little Heroes and their families. As Sophia would say, “GOOO HUTCHHH”!
